THE second annual Lytham Beer Festival takes place in the Lowther Pavilion today and Saturday.Last year’s event was so successful it had sold out of beer by the Saturday evening but organisers have learnt their lesson and it won’t happen again – they hope!

“We have got lots more beer this year – with over 90 beers from around the UK” says festival chairman Paul Smith .

Once again it is a joint venture between the Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and Fylde Borough Council.

There is extra sponsorship this year from Forbes Solicitors, four brewers – Lytham, Copper Dragon, Thwaites and Three Bs – and two Lytham pubs, the Ship & Royal and the Taps.“So we must have got something right last year,” said Paul.

Some beers are being specially brewed for the Festival by Shugborough Brewery (near Stafford), Hopstar and Fallons Breweries (both from Darwen) and Fuzzy Duck Brewery (from Poulton).

This year, all attending the Festival can nominate a Beer of the Festival. The result will be announced on Saturday evening.

“Our World Beers bar will provide a showcase of bottled beer from outside the UK – especially the ever popular fruit beers of Belgium – and there will be“real” cider and perry on offer too,” said Paul. “We want this year’s to be even bigger and better.”

For those who want to go on and “hit” the Real Ale Trail in Lytham, there will be details of where to go and what to find.

The designated charity this year will be the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The festival will be open from noon until 11pm both days.. Admission each day costs 2 (free to CAMRA members, including anyone who joins CAMRA at the Festival). See
